Ruby Necklace sounds much more romantic, but this fast-growing succulent is also known as String of Pickles or Little Pickles!
Available in store
CloseA brightly lit exposure and not too much water are the two most significant factors when growing succulents indoors. Othonna capensis 'Ruby Necklace' will actually change color depending upon the amount of light it gets. The plump, elongated leaves are more green when grown in a bright indoor setting, thus earning the nicknames of String of Pickles or Little Pickles. On the other hand, the individual leaves become more purple, just as are the stems, when grown under grow lights or in extremely well-lit, southern or SW facing windows. In either case, 'Ruby Necklace' grows quickly and trails as long as you'll let it. Trim the ends periodically and plant them back in the pot for a fuller plant. If your fur friends or little people do the trimming by chomping on the stems, not to worry, this succulent is non-toxic.
