Golden foliage will brighten the fall and winter months, bringing some "winter sun" to the year-round garden.

CloseDuring the spring and summer, Winter Sun Mugo Pine looks much like its cousins - a dense, globose mound of green needles. But as the days shorten and temperatures drop, 'Wintersonne' puts on its party clothes, turning a brilliant gold that will brighten the dark days of fall and winter. This slow growing pine may be only two to three feet tall and wide at the 10-year mark, and may eventually form a squat pyramidal shape that is wider than it is tall. Its slow growth and cold weather colors make it an excellent choice for year-round container planters and bonsai, as well as rock gardens and borders where it will have the benefit of full sun and well-draining soil.
