CloseDescribing flower colors is often tricky, as many blues look purple, oranges are more pink or salmon, and yellows can range from an almost white to butter yellow. When it comes to a true red, 'Lanai Red' verbena could be the poster child, with no hint of pink or blue tones. Standing not quite a foot tall, this variety will spill over the edges of hanging baskets and container planters, or add color in borders and mass plantings. Deadheading spent blooms will keep verbena looking its best and will encourage new blooms. A light shearing back in late summer will encourage a final burst of growth before temps dip down to freezing.
