Although this variety of thyme can be used for cooking, we appreciate 'Silver Posie' as a tough evergreen ornamental.

CloseAs much as thyme is valued as a culinary herb, we appreciate this fragrant evergreen as an attractive garden ornamental. Though thyme prefers well draining soil, it is somewhat tolerant of heavier clay soil, and forgives irregular watering once established. Deer don't like it though bees and butterflies flock to the summer blooms. 'Silver Posie,' or Variegated Thyme, has small green leaves edged in white that sometimes take on pinkish tones, and forms tidy mounds about six to ten inches tall and up up to two feet wide. This is a great option for container planters and hanging baskets, with attractive year-round foliage and a heavenly fragrance. 'Silver Posie' is a low-maintenance shrub, but do trim back the foliage after blooming to keep the plant dense and tidy.
