'Red Rubin' Hens and Chicks will change color throughout the year, depending mostly upon the day length, temps, and amount of sun.

CloseHens and Chicks don't seem like an optimal choice for the rainy Pacific NW, but they do amazingly well here when planted in well-draining soil and are given ample sun. 'Red Rubin' is a standout addition to container planters, hanging baskets, and those dry, gravelly borders, with its smooth leaves morphing from deep red to green with red tips as the weather changes. Pink summertime flowers bring on the bees and butterflies, but the "hen" will die after flowering, leaving all its chicks to take its place. 'Red Rubin' is an excellent ground cover in xeriscapes and needs little water once established, but please, water regularly when first planted!
