CloseWhile not truly black, Hens and Chicks 'Black' does indeed take on a deep burgundy color in the fall and winter. Spring and summer foliage is typically bright green with burgundy tips, with starry white flowers appearing in the summer. As is true of most hens and chicks, the "hen" will flower in the summer, then die, leaving lots of little chicks to fill in the gaps and start sending out their own chicks.
