CloseThe dense green foliage of this mossy rockfoil, 'Alpino Early Carnival,' is often overlooked until it is covered by a profusion of reddish-purple flowers in early spring. Forming a tight mound about six to 10 inches tall and up to a foot wide, mossy rockfoil is an excellent addition to borders, hanging baskets, and container planters. It can handle full sun if given ample water, but saxifrage does better with protection from the late afternoon sun or with all day dappled sun. This hardy evergreen ground cover endures our Pacific NW winters, and is often ignored by deer and rabbits, but the middle of the clump may brown out after the first few seasons. Simply divide the mound into two separate parts and replant for a fresh start.
