Pachysandra terminalis ‘Green Carpet’

Japanese spurge may be the ground cover of choice for those deeply shaded areas of the yard, and especially under trees that seem to stymie the growth of all other plants. 'Green Carpet' forms a tidy ground cover less than a foot tall and up to 18 inches wide. Broadly toothed, deep green oval leaves are somewhat shiny. Too much direct sun will cause them to yellow - all-day dappled sun seems to work well. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, pachysandra is fairly low maintenance, and even has small white flowers in the spring. Consider using it as a filler/trailer in container planters or hanging baskets for the shade.
