Product Description
Evergreen trees or shrubs that actually thrive in shadier locations in Pacific NW gardens are few and far between, so in a way, it's appropriate that the Wheel Tree, the sole surviving species of its kind, is an option. Leathery, ovate leaves tend to grow in clusters along tiered, horizontal branches, revealing the inner bark that changes color between spring and winter. Slow-growing to 10 feet tall and 10 to 12 feet wide, the Wheel Tree does best in moisture-retaining soil and is even wet-tolerant. Petal-less, greenish-yellow flowers appear in late spring, radiating like spokes of a wheel (thus the common name), followed by pale green seed capsules.
