It's always somewhat surprising to see palms growing in and around the Portland metro area, and the Windmill Palm is one of the successful ones.

As a tropical plant, the Windmill palm does best in full sun to light shade with regular watering, especially during the summer months. Sources say it can grow to 25 to 30 feet tall under ideal conditions, but Oregon State University extension says to expect a much smaller specimen here in the Pacific NW. It may, however, produce yellow flowers in the late spring and summer.
