Like all thymes, German Winter thyme prefers well-draining soil and lots of sun. A wonderful addition to soups, stews, and marinades, this thyme also provides a year-round presence in the garden, whether grown in pots or in classic knot gardens. Less than a foot tall and spreading a bit wider, Winter thyme does well in container planters, hanging or otherwise, and in the ground, as long as it gets plenty of sun and well-draining soil. Flowers attract pollinators and can be clipped after blooming to keep plants compact. The trimmings can be used in the kitchen.
