Squash 'Delicata Bush' 4 inch

Delicata squash is a terrific candidate for gardeners who enjoy winter squash but lack the space usually required for significant harvests. This variety spreads to about four feet across and usually tops out around a foot, yet produces lots of 6 - 8 inch long fruits. Male flowers usually emerge first to attract pollinators, then female flowers follow, requiring pollination by bees (or by hand, if you're not seeing much fruit development). Consider planting daisy-like flowers (echinacea, cosmos, zinnias) or bee balm (monarda) and salvias to bring those essential partners to your veggie garden. Delicata squash are ready to harvest when the rinds are hard and shiny. Cut off the vine to avoid tearing the skin.
