Sempervivum 'Pacific Red Rose'

Hens and Chicks don't seem like an optimal choice for the rainy Pacific NW, but they do amazingly well here when planted in well-draining soil and are given ample sun. 'Pacific Red Rose' is an eye-catching addition to container planters, hanging baskets, and those dry, gravelly borders, with its large burgundy red rosettes. The color may change to paler red tones mixed with deep green as the weather changes, but these succulents have a year-round presence. The "hens" will eventually send up pink flowers in the summer to late fall, then will die, leaving all the chicks to take their place. 'Pacific Red Rose' is an excellent ground cover in xeriscapes and needs little water once established, but please, water regularly when first planted!
