Sempervivum Chick Charms® 'Lotus Blossom'

For all the hundreds of different varieties of Hens and Chicks, many are so similar in looks that it's hard to correctly identify them. That's not the case with 'Lotus Blossom,' with its downy, cheery red petals edged in white. A true standout for hanging baskets, container planters, or those dry, hard-to-water garden borders, 'Lotus Blossom' can form rosettes up to five inches across while staying under three inches tall. The chicks can spread up to 12 inches wide, sending out their own chicks as they mature. As a reminder, Hens and Chicks are monocarpic, so once a hen flowers, it will die, making room for more chicks to mature.

'Lotus Blossom' does best in well-draining soil, so for those with heavy clay soil, consider planting this amazing sempervivum in containers or amend the heck out of the in-ground soil. Constantly wet feet will surely rot out the roots, and that would be a shame!
