'Bronco' is such an amazing Hens and Chicks, it earned the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society in 2008. Primarily red in color, it may turn purple in the winter, or green with purple tips. This variety is larger than many of the newer varieties, with a single rosette capable of growing seven to eight inches across. 'Bronco' does well in container planters or in the ground, as long as it has well-draining soil and doesn't get soggy roots in the winter.
