We cannot emphasize enough the two factors that will ensure happy, healthy succulents - deep but infrequent watering and plenty of sunshine. Baby's Tears stonecrop looks too delicate to withstand our cold, soggy winters, but with excellent drainage, it usually maintains a presence even in the dead of winter. Sedums are perfect for those hot areas of the garden that are rarely watered and where the soil seems too gravelly/sandy for most plants. One caveat - newly planted succulents need to be watered regularly until established, and that could take over nine months. Lacking a well-draining soil, consider using Baby's Tears in container planters and hanging baskets as a trailer. They do great in potting soil, and if the exposure isn't right, they an always be moved to an area with more sun.
