The common name of Norway Spruce conjures up visions of large trees, but that couldn't be further from the truth when it comes to 'Little Gem.' Starting life as a witch's broom on another spruce, it forms a dense rounded mound of evergreen needles that barely reaches a foot in height and 18 inches wide at the 10-year mark. Naturally flat-topped, 'Little Gem' needs no pruning (unless used as a bonsai subject) and is a low-maintenance addition to sunny gardens.
