Phormium 'Pink Panther'

Originating from New Zealand, one would expect phormiums to be drought tolerant, but surprisingly enough, these look their best when watered deeply and regularly when dry. 'PInk Panther' is a smaller, red-hued variety, topping out around three to four feet tall and wide, and is perfectly happy in container planters and hanging baskets when young. It should eventually be moved out into the garden to achieve its full size, where it can serve as a foundation plant, low hedge, or privacy screen. It's a bit too cold in the Pacific NW for phormiums to bloom, so pollinators usually ignore New Zealand flax, as do deer.
