Product Description
Product Description
For those who prefer container gardening, New Zealand flax may seem too big for their purposes. However, we have used quart- and gallon-sized versions of 'Maori Queen' in container planters and hanging baskets with great success, before having to move them out into the garden in subsequent years. The olive green, pink, red, and cream colored leaves have a dramatic presence in year-round and even seasonal baskets, complementing a range of varying textures and colors. Out in the garden, 'Maori Queen' adds a welcome splash of color as a backdrop for lower growing evergreens and perennials, and serves well as a hedge. Our Pacific NW winters can damage the leaves of phormiums during the winter, but those can be cut back to the ground before new growth emerges in the spring.
