Shishito' peppers started appearing in the stores and farmers' markets several years ago, made popular in restaurants as a fried or roasted appetizer. Thin-walled and narrow as are many chili peppers, 'Shishito' is rated 50 - 200 Scoville heat units, though most rarely have any heat to them at all. It's that one in ten peppers that will take the consumer by surprise! Cooked just until softened, these two- to four-inch long green peppers have a slightly smoky flavor with a hint of citrus, and are absolutely delicious stir-fried, grilled, or roasted.
