A eucalyptus look-alike, but much better adapted to our climate, and actually a subshrub, not a tree.
Product Description
Product Description
At first glance, people may mistake this unusual perennial for a eucalyptus, but it's actually a subshrub (soft stems on a woody base) and does well in our Pacific NW climate. Arching stems can reach two feet in height, with terminal flower spikes appearing in the spring and into summer. Drought tolerant once established, it is hardy down to zero degrees and considered evergreen, but the foliage may die back in extreme winters. Flowers grow on previous year's stems, so if you wish to shape the plant, prune it in early summer after flowering. The stems tend to flop if the plant doesn't get enough sun, so consider placing it next to other evergreens or perennials that can act as support.
