Peonies have been a well-loved element of gardens for centuries but the Itoh peonies only came into being in 1948 when Toichi Itoh, a Japanese nurseryman, crossed tree peonies with herbaceous varieties. The resulting hybrids have large blooms on sturdy stems that don't require staking, and stay around three feet tall and wide. 'Scrumpdidleumptious' has elegant, semi-double to double yellow blooms that are tinged with pink and edged in the same, yielding a uniquely colored flower. Sun is needed for the most blooms, as is regular watering to maintain the heavily lobed foliage.
