Silvery blue/green rosettes are surprisingly cold hardy but equally surprising, need protection from the late afternoon sun.
Product Description
Product Description
This slightly rangy looking succulent is a bundle of contradictions. Commonly known as Chinese Dunce Caps, it actually originated in Japan. It looks like a sedum but is monocarpic, like Hens & Chicks. That means that when a rosette blooms, it will soon die, with the offsets filling in. Orostachys is hardy down to -10 degrees F, but it doesn't do well in the late afternoon sun. In spite of all the contradictions, Chinese Dunce Caps is an interesting succulent to own, with tall flower stalks often reaching six inches. Treat this as a houseplant year-round, or grow outdoors in the summer with afternoon shade. Consider growing this in a container planter, as excellent drainage is vital for continued growth.
