Molinia caerulea 'Variegata'

Gardeners love perennial grasses for the vertical, open profile that few broadleaf specimens can offer. That said, many of these grasses can overwhelm a landscape, requiring regular division or outright removal. Variegated Moor Grass may be a better choice for smaller gardens, growing into a dense mound 12 to 18 tall and wide, with longitudinally-striped, narrow leaves and tall flower/seed spikes that add a graceful movement in late summer. The creamy yellow coloring is all the brighter when given full sun, though this grass will tolerate some shade. Purple-tinged seed stalks appear in late summer to fall, gradually fading to tan. As with most grasses, Variegated Moor Grass will die down in the winter. Shear back the clump in late winter to make way for new spring growth.
