Once people find out that touching a Shame plant (aka Shy or Sensitive plant) will cause its leaves to immediately close up, few are able to resist the temptation to do so. This member of the pea family makes an entertaining houseplant, growing 12 to 18 inches tall and one to five feet wide. A bright exposure with higher humidity will keep this mimosa looking its best, and it may even produce pink to lavender flowers. Consider it an indoor annual (like all those summer blooming annuals), lasting about one year.
