Lunaria annua 'Rosemary Verey'

Nicknamed Money Plant for the papery, silver-dollar sized seed pods, Lunaria annua 'Rosemary Varey' is not often seen in modern gardens. As a biennial, it grows heart-shaped leaves its first season, forming an upright mound about two to three feet tall and almost as wide. The leaves start out matte green, then slowly transform to a deep purple shade. The second year, vivid purple/pink flowers appear in the spring, contrasting beautifully against the dark foliage. The flowers eventually become the flat papery seed pods that are often seen in dried flower arrangements, and if left on the plant, can drop and reseed, making new plants for the following year.
