Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Rainbow Improved'

As beautiful as it is, Leucothoe fontanesiana 'Rainbow' may be passed over due to its larger size. This 'Rainbow Improved' variety has all the beauty of the original but in a much more petite package. Standing less than two feet tall and staying under three feet wide, this lovely variegated evergreen will be a fabulous addition to hanging baskets and container baskets with its gracefully arching stems. It allegedly handles full sun to part shade, but it may prefer some shelter from the late afternoon sun, especially since our Pacific NW summers have become hotter over the past several years. 'Rainbow Improved' is a great choice for year-round planters, as those randomly variegated leaves will take on pinkish hues when the temperatures drop.
