Kalanchoe hortagel 'Mother of Millions'

Kalanchoe hortagel is often a surprise to indoor gardeners, and unlike a cousin that is grown for its beautiful flower clusters, this succulent is all about the foliage. Countless baby plantlets grow along the edges of the adult leaves, thus earning the common name of Mother of Millions. In areas where this variety can be grown outdoors, it is often considered invasive, as the babies will drop off and root, but that's not a problem for indoor gardeners. Give this succulent as much indirect light as possible to keep it compact - a south-facing window or a grow light is best. Water deeply but infrequently when the top inch or two of soil is dry. And as is true of many houseplants, this Mother of Millions is not pet-friendly, so keep out of reach of chewing pets, and gather up any baby plantlets that may fall on the ground.
