Typically used as the trailer in hanging baskets and container planters, there are enough varieties of sweet potato vine to create a luxurious pot of greenery for the summer garden. 'Sweet Caroline Red Hawk' mounds up to 16 inches tall before spilling over so consider using this cultivar for the center of the pot. Add in 'Blackie' for dramaitic dark tones, 'Marguerite' for that classic chartreuse color, and 'Tricolor' for a bit of variegation. Alternatively, the vines can all be trained upward on a trellis or obelisk, creating a tower of lush foliage. While sweet potato vine can handle sun or shade, most varieties will be more green if grown in deep shade
