Ipomoea Illusion® 'Penny Lace'

When customers ask for Sweet Potato Vine, they are usually referring to the bright chartreuse variety with heart-shaped leaves. Gardeners may not be aware that there are several other varieties of Ipomoea that cover a range of colors and leaf shapes, and all trail at least two feet. Illusion® 'Penny Lace' has chocolatey-brown to deep red foliage, and resembles deeply dissected Japanese maple leaves. Not quite as vigorous as 'Marguerite,' it trails up to three feet long, perfect for low-hanging baskets or shorter container planters. 'Penny Lace' looks its best when grown in full or partial sun. Too deep a shade and its rich red coloring may revert to green.
