Hydrangea paniculata 'Vanilla Strawberry'

A common trait among the panicle hydrangeas is the ability of the flowers to change color, and in the case of 'Vanilla Strawberry,' its cone-shaped flowers emerge white, then take on pink hues that eventually deepen to strawberry red. This variety stands tall - 6 to 8 feet - but the weight of the flowers may cause the stems to arch downward. The other trait that so many gardeners love about panicle hydrangeas is the ability to grow in sunny locations and in fact, bloom more profusely with more sun. Flowers appear on new wood, so be sure to cut back panicle hydrangeas in the fall when dormant, or late winter, before new growth begins.
