Hosta ‘Queen Josephine’

To say that most hostas are some variation of green and white/cream leaves is like saying that all blonds look alike. Textures, shapes, sizes, and even the finish of the leaves create unique, identifiable varieties and in the hosta world, 'Queen Josephine' is known for its ultra-glossy, deep green leaves with irregular yellow margins. Only about a foot tall, this hosta can form a mound twice as wide, filling in shade borders or container planters with its clean, lustrous leaves. Alas, the shine doesn't deter slugs, so be sure to protect 'Queen Josephine' from the slime patrol. There's always slug bait, but some gardeners swear that used coffee grounds spread generously around the base of susceptible plants will stop slugs and snails in their tracks. Non-coffee drinkers can always visit their local coffee shops for free used grounds but bring a container!
