Hosta 'Hadspen Blue'

Folks often lament the fact that hostas, a mainstay of shade gardens, seem to be 24-hour buffets for slugs and snails. 'Hadspen Blue' has thick, heavily ribbed leaves that are impervious to those slimy creatures, and happens to be one of the few blue colored varieties that retains its marvelous steely-blue looks all summer long. Shorter than some other hostas, it forms a mound of broad, cup-shaped leaves about a foot tall and almost twice as wide, with pale lavender flowers rising up to 18 inches tall in the summer. Hummingbirds love those, but spent blooms should be removed to promote continued leaf formation.
