It's amazing how huge some varieties of hostas can get, so for those with limited garden space, it's a nice surprise to find one that is more compact. 'Brim Cup' has six-inch long, slightly cupped leaves that form a mound about a foot tall and only a bit wider. The margins start out chartreuse, then morph to a creamy white, in sharp contrast to the green centers. Summer flowers are about 18 inches tall, attracting hummingbirds. 'Brim Cup' can take a front row in garden borders, but putting one in a container planter or hanging basket may deter hungry slugs and snails.
