Hakonechloa macra 'Beni-kaze'

Japanese Forest Grass isn't all that spectacular to look at in a gallon can, but it can do wonders for shade gardens when planted in containers, borders, and hanging baskets. 'Beni-kaze' is in the mid-range for size, growing 12 to 18 inches tall and eventually spreading to three feet wide. Lovely bright green blades sway with the gentlest of breezes, and add vertical interest when mixed with other shade-loving plants. The green takes on red and gold colors in the fall before dying back in the winter. Cut back to the ground in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges to keep this grass tidy and fresh.
