Gymnocalycium mihanovichii

The interesting thing about this grafted cactus is that Gymnocalycium, the colored part, has no chlorophyll and thus needs the green base (Hylocereus undatus) to supply it with food to grow and thrive. If the colorful Gymnocalycium dies, the base may still be viable and oddly enough, it is the source of dragon fruit, but only after many years in the appropriate climate. If the opposite happens, i.e. the base dies, the colorful tops usually cannot survive on their own. That said, this is a ridiculously easy plant to have indoors as long as you have an excellent light source (a grow light may be needed) and don't overwater. If your Gymnocalycium is happy, you'll see it develop offsets on its surface (see the picture of the red Gymnocalycium).
