Geranium sanguineum 'New Hampshire'

Hardy geraniums, aka Bloody Cranesbills, are often overlooked for more robust looking perennials, but once planted in the garden, become a favorite. 'New Hampshire' has deep magenta flowers in late spring to summer, topping the finely cut green leaves that form compact clumps up to a foot tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Low maintenance and extremely happy in sunny spots of the garden, this specimen is usually overlooked by deer and rabbits, though pollinators love it. 'New Hampshire' is a colorful summer filler for hanging baskets and container planters, and works well in garden borders. A light shearing after blooming will help keep this hardy geranium dense and compact. As summer ends and temps drop, the foliage takes on crimson hues before dying back.
