Gaultheria shallon 'Cascade Sunrise'

Gaultheria shallon is a tough West Coast native that thrives in woodland areas with a year-round presence. 'Cascade Sunrise' is a cultivar with the same characteristics but it sports a slightly more refined look. Ovate leaves emerge an orange-red before turning green, and in the sun, will form a rounded shrub about three feet tall and wide. Planted in shadier locations, 'Cascade Sunrise' may grow twice as big. This cultivar produces the same bell-shaped flowers that eventually turn into tasty blue berries, enjoyed by the wildlife, including humans.
