Fuchsia 'Gartenmeister'

'Gartenmeister' fuchsia stands out among the fuchsias with dark tinged leaves, an upright profile, and striking tubular shaped, reddish-orange flowers. Though we have seen this variety return in "normal" Pacific NW weather, extreme cold spells will usually kill 'Gartenmeister' off. Some gardeners treat it as an annual; if it comes back in the spring, they consider it a bonus. It's a bit more heat tolerant than other fuchsias, and may be the perfect addition to container planters or hanging baskets that get early afternoon sun. Hummingbirds enjoy this unusual variety as much as gardeners do.
