Fuchsia 'David'

It's no wonder this hardy fuchsia made it onto the Great Plant Picks for the Pacific NW list. Hardy down to zero degrees, 'David' returns year after year, forming a rounded mound of fresh green foliage with red and purple flowers covering it from early summer right up until fall freeze. Hummingbirds tend to stake out this shrub and may get quite territorial, although bees and bumblebees slip in freely. Hardy fuchsias are said to tolerate full sun, but with increasing summer temps, it may be best to grow them with protection from the late afternoon sun, and be sure to water them deeply and regularly.
