Dracaena surculosa 'Gold Dust'

When we first saw this plant, we assumed it was some type of croton, so color us surprised when we found it to be a dracaena! "Surculosa" means branching in Latin, and describes how this particular variety grows. Thin branches bear broad green leaves spotted with gold. Too little light and the coloring may disappear, so place this dracaena away from heat vents in a well-lit room (but no direct sun). Water when the soil is dry to the touch, and place the pot on a pebble-filled saucer with water barely covering the stones to increase humidity. This is a slow grower, but given the right conditions, it can form a small shrub of gloriously colored foliage at maturity.
