Digiplexis 'Berry Canary'

The aim of hybridization is to take the best qualities of differing species and combine them into a single unit. Digiplexis 'Berry Canary' is such a creation, combining hardy foxglove with a tender perennial, isoplexis. All who see this hybrid will agree it is a stunner - not quite as tall or unruly as foxgloves, and with a long blooming season from late spring right up to fall frost. A fast grower, 'Berry Canary' attracts hummingbirds and pollinators with the tall flower stalks that rise above a basal clump of dark green leaves. Because the flowers are sterile, the plant will keep producing blooms (with deadheading) for a much longer time. The down side to this combination? This variety is more tender than common foxgloves, so consider growing it in a container that can be sheltered in the fall and winter.
