Datura 'Double Lavender'

Anyone who has read murder mysteries will know that datura is highly toxic to humans and pets, but what those novels don't tell readers is how utterly unique and beautiful the flowers can be. 'Double Lavender' Angel's Trumpet produces ruffle-edged flowers in shades of white and lavender at the peak of summer, right up into the fall. Beneficial insects and hummingbirds are just as attracted to the flowers as are humans, while deer tend to shun the plant. Growing up to three feet tall and two to three feet wide, this specimen adapts well to large container planters, and does best in full sun with regular watering. Like brugmansia, datura plants may be wintered indoors or in a heated greenhouse, but care is needed to prevent pests.
