Crocus vernus 'Yellow Mammoth'

Just when people are longing for relief from the cold dark days of winter, crocuses will send up their thin, strappy leaves, with the blooms not far behind. 'Yellow Mammoth' crocus does it in a big way, sporting the largest butter-yellow blooms around. Plant in containers, borders, any nook or cranny that needs a springtime lift. Crocuses are tough, return year after year, and can even be planted directly in a lawn, as long as the soil is well-draining. If you opt for this look, be prepared to hold off mowing that section of lawn for six weeks after blooms are spent. It's a fun idea, but we prefer putting 'Yellow Mammoth' crocuses in hanging baskets and container planters, where they're easy to spot and enjoy.
