Crocosmia 'Lucifer'

It's no surprise that this crocosmia received the Award of Merit from England's Royal Horticultural Society. Three to four foot long sword-like leaves provide an eye-catching backdrop for the arching wands of flame-red flowers that begin to bloom at the peak of summer and often continue into early fall. As a cut flower, Lucifer's blooms are long lasting, adding grace and height to flower arrangements. Allegedly deer- and rabbit-resistant, 'Lucifer' crocosmia is a true bee and hummingbird magnet. Give this dependable perennial plenty of sun, as the leaves may lean toward the light if planted in too shady a location.
