Coreopsis verticillata 'Broad Street'

Many gardeners appreciate the airy, fern-like foliage of Threadleaf coreopsis, aka Tickseed, that adds textural interest to sunny gardens, but what they're usually waiting for are the bright summer blooms that start popping up as soon as the weather warms. 'Broad Street' has bright red flowers with flashy orange undersides, and will often cover the top of the clumps. Don't hesitate to cut flowers for bouquets - this will make way for even more blooms. Usually less than two feet tall and wide, 'Broad Street' can be used in hanging baskets and container planters as a filler/thriller, or consider lining sunny borders with this show-off perennial. Bees and butterflies love the flowers, deer are usually uninterested. Once established in the ground, Threadleaf coreopsis is somewhat drought-tolerant, and can withstand our cold, wet Pacific NW winters as well, coming back year after year.
