Coco lining in sheets or shaped forms are amazing products that are good for the planet and good for plants. Coconut coir is the inner layer of an unshelled coconut and surrounds the "seed" that most folks recognize as a coconut. It is typically considered agricultural waste, yet the fibers can be transformed into a good-for-plants liner. Strong enough to hold soil and plants in open-weaved frames, it allows plants to breathe and drains well. Yes, it will decompose and yes, birds love it for their nests, but compressed coconut coir will easily last a year, and the "leftovers" can be dismantled, cut up, and dug into the soil for improved drainage and aeration, or added to compost piles as a "dry" component needed for healthy composting.
