Many of our older gardeners often state that even though they like the looks of a plant, they don't have time to wait for it to reach its maximum height. The Cream Ball Sawara Cypress may well be one of those evergreens, growing on average two inches per year. The American Conifer Society indicated that this pretty cream colored evergreen averaged less than two feet tall and wide at the 10-year mark, and Isleli Nursery, the connoisseur of conifers, states that it will eventually reach six feet in height and width. Perhaps that is why we like using this Japanese False Cypress in container planters, hanging baskets, borders and rock gardens, where its pleasing roundness and slow growth are actually bonuses. Definitely a sun lover, Cream Ball Sawara Cypress not only is drought tolerant, but actually looks better the more sun it gets.
