This dwarf Hinoki cypress has some unusual characteristics that set it apart from other varieties. 'Mariesii' will change color depending upon the amount of sun it gets. The more sun, the more golden the foliage. More shade will result in paler/whiter variegations. It will also change shape as it ages, going from a loosely rounded shape when young, to a broader, more upright form at maturity.
