Though dwarf plumbago, aka Leadwort, can reach a foot tall, it is considered an excellent ground cover for sun or partial shade, spreading up to 18 inches wide, sometimes more. Spread by underground rhizomes, leadwort will suppress weeds as it matures and is excellent for erosion control. Dark green foliage in the summer time serves as a backdrop for brilliant blue flowers that keep appearing until early fall. As the temps drop, the foliage takes on bronzy red shades, giving the garden a last blast of color before dying back for the winter. It will return in the spring, bigger and better than ever.
